Located
in the heart of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Derry Township School District
offers students and their families the unique combination of a
small town atmosphere coupled with the cultural, recreational,
medical and economic amenities of a major city.
Located approximately 15 miles from Harrisburg, the state capital of
Pennsylvania, the Hershey area thrives with local business, convention
and recreation facilities which contribute to high levels of employment.
The
close proximity of the Hershey Medical Center, one of the most
progressive and advanced medical centers in the nation, allows
for on-going interaction between the district and medical professionals.
Doctors and specialists frequently visit classrooms to share their
expertise, and our students have the opportunity to volunteer or
serve as student interns at the medical center. Additionally, students
are able to take a short walk across the school campus to utilize
the resources made available by the Hershey Public Library and
the Recreation Center. |

The
Lower Dauphin School District is 92 square miles in area and is home
to five K-5 elementary schools, a middle school (grades 6-8), and
a high school (grades 9-12).
There is an elementary school building in each of the district's four townships.
Hummelstown Borough is home to our fifth elementary building, our middle school,
our high school and our district administration center.
About 4,000 children attend our schools, with about 1,770 at the elementary level;
1,000 at the middle school; 1,150 at the high school; and another 100 at the
Dauphin County Technical School. As the nature of our district has changed from
rural to suburban, our student enrollment has increased by about 70 students
per month for the past several years. |

The
Palmyra Area School District's three elementary schools take pride
in providing a strong academic start for the community's children.
With a focus on the core curriculum areas of reading, writing,
mathematics, science and social studies, a dedicated and skilled
staff provides a solid foundation for our students education.
Palmyra
Area Middle School puts students first through its dedication to
the middle school concept. Sixth through eighth graders are each
assigned to a team to provide the support and cooperative approach
necessary for success. Through this system of a team of students
sharing the same major subject area teachers, students benefit
from an interdisciplinary approach to their studies as well as
from the relationships developed from working so closely together
with the same group of students and teachers. Furthermore, full
inclusion ensures that all students reap the benefits of the middle
school's offerings.
Palmyra
Area High School, accredited by the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools, completes our students' strong
education by focusing on each student's future. "Pathways"
allow students to tailor their course work to their future career
plans. In order to graduate, each student must complete his or her
chosen pathway-- traditional academic or technical academic. |
